For you, For me, For everyone - this was the ethos behind The Apothecary Shop
Having grown fruit and vegetables organically and under Soil Association Certification since 1996, and having had Handley Organics a successful and thriving organic fruit and vegetable wholefood shop in Ledbury for many years; it was a long held dream of Caroline and Ian’s to open an Ethical and Organic shop selling everything from the very best in herbs and supplements through to natural remedies, organic and ethical products for hair and skin care, toiletries and make-up, essential oils for aromatherapy and massage, by way of ethically sourced household products and to do it in the best manner possible.
When in 2009 Polly Wilson came to work in the Handley Organics wholefood shop, having escaped a more hectic life in London, Caroline and Ian knew that the final essential part of their jigsaw for opening such a venture had fallen into place. It seemed fairly simple to acquire the lease on a suitable town centre shop and to fit it out in good quality recycled shopfittings and fill it up in a friendly and pleasing way and to construct and decorate a therapy room though I suspect that with the benefit of rose-tinted spectacles hindsight it was a great deal of very hard work and even longer hours than normal by all to get it exactly how we wanted it.. But Caroline and Ian had always known that a nice shop filled with the best available range of products was all very well, but they also appreciated that the main asset for any business were the people who staff and run it and in Polly and later Becky and Ann and Stephanie they had found the perfect people.
Polly is a qualified Homeopath and Therapist with such a fountain of knowledge who had previously managed a prestigious health centre in London. She had an in-depth knowledge of the herbal and homeopathic remedies and how they can help influence the lives of people with all sorts of troubling conditions. Also being a modern fashionable woman she had a good awareness of what was in the market place for organics and ethical bodycare and makeup products, and threw herself into further in-depth research with a staggering amount of enthusiasm and together with Caroline they started sourcing the very best in products from leading suppliers such as Dr Hauscka, Anne Marie Borlind, Inika, Spiezia, Herbfarmacy, Weleda, Jason....... and the list goes on. Of course the great news is that our Loyalty Cards are now available from the shop offering real savings in these challenging times with great benefit of being applicable to both The Apothecary Shop and Handley Organics.
The Therapy Room
We also offer to local Therapists a pleasant and peaceful therapy room at the rear of the shop. This is proving very popular and is a way for therapists to offer regular treatments at a purpose-built room in the middle of this lovely town. The therapy room is available to hire by the half or full day and for long or short periods and currently offers therapies for all sorts of disciplines.
